They meet monthly and sponsor rock hunting field trips and provide access to a lapidary workshop in the Artisan Resource Center (http://www.artisanresourcecenter.net) in Marietta. Bill and I attended the monthly membership meeting and enjoyed the guest speaker so we joined. Neither one of us know alot about rocks and minerals but we hope to learn. Since I use natural gemstones in jewelry making and we already like to walk and hike it seemed like an excellent fit. We are looking forwarding to their monthly classes and use of the lapidary workshop. In 2008 we decided to set a goal is to walk or hike 500 miles, excluding our normal daily activities. If we just do 10 miles a week we will actually reach 520 miles. It departs from the train depot in Blue Ridge and travels north along the Toccoa River to McCaysville, GA on the Tennessee border. We had hoped for beautiful fall colors but the leaves were still green. It was still a great day.
