Today I began a 5-part workshop on learning how to make jewelry with Precious Metal Clay (PMC). The instructor is Dana Ruth of Atlanta Artworx at the Artisan Resource Center in Marietta. Dana is a very talented metalsmith and a certified PMC instructor.
Over the next 5 weeks we will learn. - How to use and care for the clay
- Applying textures to PMC+
- Drying and finishing the clay piece before firing
- Using the PMC 3 Syringe to embed Cubic Zurconians (CZ's) into the clay
- Firing PMC in a kiln
- How to make bezels, bails, etc.
- Using natural objects or cork clay to make jewelry with PMC and slip
- Adding enamel to a PMC piece (pendant, chain, magnet, etc.)
- Tumbling to work harden
- Applying patinas and jewelry blackening to the finished piece.
- Adding photos to a finished PMC piece
I really like working with PMC. I always enjoyed clay and this is really fun. |
